Your link on TikTok

How to put your link in bio on TikTok.

TikTok lets a personal account add a website link once it has at least 1,000 followers, and a Verified Business Account at any size. Add your Portage page under Edit profile, with ?via=tiktok on the end so your numbers name those visits.

What TikTok allows for links today

  • A personal account can add a website link to its profile once it has at least 1,000 followers.[1]
  • A Verified Business Account (once called a Registered Business Account) can add one at any follower count.[1]
  • Verifying a business is only open to people 18 or older, with a valid business licence for their region.[3]
  • Links that open other social apps, or sign you into them, aren’t supported.[1]
  • TikTok may limit how people move through a chain of outside links in its own browser, and a visitor may be asked to open the page in their phone’s browser instead. TikTok recommends direct links.[1]

Putting your Portage page on TikTok

Your Portage page goes in the website link on your profile.

  1. Publish your Portage page, then copy its address. In the editor, Share links has it ready with ?via=tiktok on the end.
  2. In TikTok, go to your profile and tap Edit profile.
  3. Next to Links, tap Add, and follow the steps to add your website.
  4. Paste your address and save. Then tap the link on your profile to check it opens your page.

See which visits came from TikTok

TikTok usually opens links in its own browser, which doesn’t say where a visit came from. Add ?via=tiktok to the address in your bio, and those visits show in your numbers as your TikTok link instead of “Direct or unknown”.

portage.camp/@yourname?via=tiktok
  • In the editor, open Share links. Once TikTok is one of the profiles on your page, there’s a button that copies this address for you.
  • For a second spot on the same app, type your own word in the “Somewhere else” box, like one word for each video or post, and each shows up on its own line.
  • The word only names where a visit came from. Nobody’s identity is in it, and Portage counts visits without cookies.

How the numbers work

If TikTok says a link may be unsafe

TikTok’s help says a visitor may see a message asking them to open a page in their phone’s own browser, and that it limits long chains of outside links. Its help pages name no form for asking it to look at a link again.

  1. Check the address you pasted.Open it yourself in a private window. A typo, an extra space or a shortened link in front of it can trip a warning, so use your page’s own portage.camp address with nothing in front of it.
  2. Look at every link on your page.A warning can come from what your page links to, not just from your page. Open each link and take out or replace any that goes somewhere you don’t trust, or that now goes somewhere new.
  3. Look up the address with Google.Search for Google’s “Safe Browsing site status” and paste in your page’s address. It says whether Google lists the address as unsafe, which rules one common list in or out.
  4. Put the link people come for first.A visitor who is asked to switch browsers may only tap once more, so put the one link most people want at the top of your page.
  5. Tell us.If the warning is about portage.camp itself, report it as a bug from the link at the foot of any Portage page, with the app’s name and what it said. We’ll look into it and take it up with the app.

What people ask

Why can’t I add a link to my TikTok bio?

TikTok’s help centre says a website link needs at least 1,000 followers, or a Verified Business Account, which is for people 18 or older with a business licence. Until then, your Portage page works everywhere else you share it.

Is a Portage page free to use on TikTok?

Yes. Every page feature is free for everyone, including stats, scheduled links, email sign-ups and every theme. There’s no trial, and you never need a card to make or keep your page.

Will ?via=tiktok change where my link goes?

No. It opens the same page. The word only tells your numbers which link the visit came from, so you can see what TikTok sends you.
