Portage for authors

One link that sends every reader to a bookshop near them.

Your book card shows the cover with one Buy button that opens a shop in the reader’s own country, says Preorder until the day it’s out, and lists the library too. Your readings go underneath and drop off once they’ve passed.

On a real page this opens whatever link you add

Your own page can link to anything with a web address.

Make one like this

Tap the address to open Agnes Caird’s page and try it.

The Buy button switches from Preorder by itself.

Your book and your readings, before launch week.

  1. Add your book.

Its cover, its formats and every shop that sells it.

  2. Set the release day.

It says Preorder until then, and Buy from that day on.

  3. Add your readings.

Each one drops off your page the day after.

A launch, a series and a picture book.

We made all three up. Agnes Caird writes crime set in Halifax, Maren Tolliver writes fantasy in Thunder Bay, and Hattie Brindle writes picture books about a moose. We made all three up. Start from any of them.

What a book needs from one link.

Launch day is coming

Count down to it on your page. Before the day the button says Preorder, and on the day it says Buy by itself.

  • I read in a few cities

List your readings with their dates and places. Your sign-up can ask which city readers are nearest, so you know who to tell.

  • My series has a reading order

Lay the covers out in a row, in order, each going to its own page. Any price is words you write.

  • Readers ask the same questions

Answer them once: the reading order, signed copies, whether book four is coming. Every answer is real text that search engines can read.

  • I don’t want my books used to train AI

Your page asks AI companies not to train on it, and a do-not-mine notice says the same. Search engines aren’t asked to stay away. It’s a request, so crawlers that follow the rules stay out.

Every feature here is free, and nothing is ever sold through your page: each Buy button goes to a bookshop.

How these work, step by step: one Buy link for a book and ask AI not to train on it.

What authors ask us first.

Which shop does the Buy button open?
One in the reader’s own country, guessed in their browser from its language and time zone, never from where they are, and nothing is stored or sent. Every shop you add is listed under the button too, and a library link is offered as a way to borrow it.
Does the button change on release day?
Yes. Give the book its release day and the button says Preorder until then and Buy from that day on, without you touching it. A countdown to the day can sit above it.
Can I list a whole series in reading order?
Yes. Put your newest book on a book card and lay the rest out as a row of covers, in order, each going wherever you sell it. Nothing is sold on your page itself.
Is this for traditionally published authors too?
Yes. Link your publisher’s page, the bookshops and the library, whoever published the book. The page is yours either way, and so is the email list you build on it.
Is it really free? What’s the catch?
No catch. Every feature is free for everyone. You only pay if you want an identity or business check, Unmarked to take the Portage credit off a business page, room to look after more than ten clients’ pages from one account, or custom work from the studio. None of those adds a feature. Every free page has a small Made with Portage line at the bottom, ours included, and your page never comes down because you didn’t buy something.

Give your next book one link.

Put it in your bio, on your bookmarks and in the back of the book. The link never has to change.

Use letters, numbers, hyphens or underscores. You can change it later.
