Portage for job seekers

Give recruiters something good to find when they search your name.

Put your work history, schooling and skills on one page with your name at the top. Add a note saying you’re open to work and it comes down by itself on the date you pick.

Data analyst with a stats degree from the U of A

Most of my work so far has been with transit and survey data. I’m looking for my first full-time analyst job.

On a real page this opens whatever link you add

Your own page can link to anything with a web address.

Make one like this

Tap the address to open Maya Okafor’s page and try it.

You can print the page whenever you need a clean copy.

Ready before your next application goes out.

  1. Add your work history.

Jobs, schooling and skills, newest first, in your own words.

  2. Say what you want next.

An open-to-work note that comes down on the date you pick.

  3. Put it on every application.

One link, with a clean copy that prints whenever you need it.

The stuff that trips people up when they’re job hunting.

I always forget to take ‘open to work’ down

Every open-to-work note has an end date, no more than a year out. On that day it comes off your page by itself.

My résumé is a PDF sitting in someone’s inbox

Put your résumé on the page, newest first, and it prints cleanly. People can still download the PDF from the same page.

Four moreA recruiter searches my name and finds nothing of mine · I’ve got one link on my résumé and five places to send people · I’m changing careers · I don’t want my whole life online
  • A recruiter searches my name and finds nothing of mine

Your name is the main heading, and search engines are told what you do, where you studied and your skills. Turn on indexing and it’s ready.

  • I’ve got one link on my résumé and five places to send people

Make your page that one link. Give each application its own link to it, and your numbers show which were opened. Not who, just which.

  • I’m changing careers

Put your jobs, schooling and courses on one timeline in your own words, with a line under each about what you got out of it.

  • I don’t want my whole life online

The résumé block never asks for your birthday, address, photo or nationality. Put your number behind a password for employers you choose.

None of this costs anything, now or after you’ve landed the job.

How these work, step by step: know which bio sent them and built for screen readers.

Pages for people looking for their next job.

We made all three up. Each one starts with what the person wants next, and their résumé comes after it.We made all three up. Start from any of them.

What people ask before they send it to employers.

Will my page come up when someone searches my name?
It can. In the editor’s settings, tick “Let search engines index this page”. It starts working once your page has your name, a short description and at least two links or profiles, and you’ve confirmed your email. Your name is the page’s main heading, and search engines are told your job title, where you studied and your skills. We can’t promise where it’ll rank, though.
What happens to the open-to-work note when I get the job?
Take it down whenever you like. If you forget, it comes off your page by itself on the end date you set, which can be up to a year away, so it won’t still be up when your new employer looks.
Can people download my résumé as a PDF?
Yes. Upload it to a file block and people can download it from your page. Any hidden metadata in the file is removed when you upload it. The experience block also prints straight from the browser as a clean black-on-white résumé. For a career fair, your page prints as business cards too, ten to a sheet, each with a code to your page.
Is it really free? What’s the catch?
No catch. Every feature is free for everyone. You only pay if you want an identity or business check, Unmarked to take the Portage credit off a business page, room to look after more than ten clients’ pages from one account, or custom work from the studio. None of those adds a feature. Every free page has a small Made with Portage line at the bottom, ours included, and your page never comes down because you didn’t buy something.

Show employers what you’ve done and what you want next.

Use the same link on every application, and update the page whenever something changes.

Use letters, numbers, hyphens or underscores. You can change it later.
