Portage for artists

Put your art front and centre.

Show your work in big pictures and let people know when you’re taking commissions. Your shop links go straight to wherever you sell.

I draw old farmhouses and big weather, and they usually come out a bit eerie.

On a real page this opens whatever link you add

Your own page can link to anything with a web address.

Make one like this

Tap the address to open Sable Creek’s page and try it.

A note like “Commissions closed” comes down on the date you pick.

Your work up before your next post.

  1. Put up your best pieces.

They open larger when someone taps, in colours that suit your work.

  2. Say if you’re taking work.

Open, waitlist or closed, with the slots you have left.

  3. Link every shop.

Etsy, Ko-fi, Gumroad and the rest, each with its own icon.

How three artists set up their pages.

We made all three up. Sable Creek counts down to the day her commissions close, Oxide Print sells linocuts online and at markets, and Tess Varga books tattoo appointments. We made all three up. Start from any of them.

The things that make selling your work harder.

People ask about commissions when I’m closed

A commissions board says open, waitlist or closed, counts the slots left and closes itself on the last day you pick.

Links are a bad way to show art

Put your work in a gallery that opens each piece larger when someone taps it, or in full-width pictures with captions.

My shop is spread across a few sites

Etsy, Gumroad, Ko-fi, Patreon and Throne get their own icons, and prints can sit in a grid with their prices.

  • My shop is spread across a few sites

Etsy, Gumroad, Ko-fi, Patreon and Throne get their own icons, and prints can sit in a grid with their prices.

  • I want people to know my socials are all me

Add your Behance, Dribbble or Flickr, and your page tells search engines those accounts are yours.

  • Some of my work needs a warning first

Turn on the content warning and visitors see it before anything else. A page with a warning stays out of search, too.

  • I don’t want my work used to train AI

Your page asks AI companies not to train on it, or on the pictures you upload. Search engines aren’t asked to stay away. It’s a request, so crawlers that follow the rules stay out.

All of this is free, for you and for everyone else.

How these work, step by step: one Buy link for a book, ask AI not to train on it and grids, carousels and folds.

What artists ask before they post work.

Can I say when commissions are open and have it expire?
Yes. The commissions board says whether you’re open, on a waitlist or closed, and closes by itself on the last day you pick. Your prices are in your own words. If you want people to see the deadline coming, there’s a countdown block too.
Can I put a content warning on my page?
Yes. Visitors see the warning first, and nothing on your page loads until they choose to continue.
Can I use my own artwork as the banner?
Yes. Upload any image as your banner and darken it if it’s too bright. You can pick every colour on the page yourself, too.
Can people tell my page is really mine?
Yes. Each profile that links back to your page gets a tick, and that’s free. If someone is pretending to be you, Identity verified adds a mark once your ID is checked. It’s $39 a year.
Can my page show when I’m live, or link my Discord?
Yes. If you stream while you draw, add your Twitch channel and your page shows a live badge while you’re on. You can add your Discord invite too, and the page shows how many people are online in it. Neither one adds a cookie to your page.
Is it really free? What’s the catch?
No catch. Every feature is free for everyone. You only pay if you want an identity or business check, Unmarked to take the Portage credit off a business page, room to look after more than ten clients’ pages from one account, or custom work from the studio. None of those adds a feature. Every free page has a small Made with Portage line at the bottom, ours included, and your page never comes down because you didn’t buy something.

Keep your art and your shop on one link.

Put it in your bio once, and send everyone to your shop and your commissions from there.

Use letters, numbers, hyphens or underscores. You can change it later.
