Link tracking

See which platform, poster or pitch sent each visit.

Your Instagram bio, your TikTok bio and the poster in the window all point at the same page. Give each one its own link and your numbers tell them apart.

Free on every Portage page, with every other feature. Nothing to upgrade to.

One page, a link for every place.

These are the addresses for an example page, with the word each one adds to the numbers. Yours are in the editor, ready to copy.

Four ways to tell visits apart.

  • A link for each bio

Add ?via=tiktok to the link in your TikTok bio and ?via=ig on Instagram. The editor has them ready for every profile on your page.

  • A code for each printed piece

The poster, the window sign and the table tent each carry their own word, so a scan says which paper it came from.

  • A link for each application

Applying for jobs or pitching clients? Make a link per company and see which were opened, on which days.

  • Tags for your own site

Turn on campaign tags and the links on your page carry UTM tags, so your own website’s stats show what Portage sends.

Set it up in a few minutes.

Start a page and track it

  1. Open Share links in Settings.

Every profile on your page has its own link there, ready to copy.

  2. Paste each into its bio.

Instagram gets the Instagram one, TikTok the TikTok one, and so on.

  3. Watch the sources.

Your numbers list each word as its own source, beside the sites that sent people.

What it can’t tell you.

  • It counts visits by where they came from, never who came. There are no profiles of visitors.
  • A word only counts if the visit arrives with it. Someone who types your address by hand counts as a direct visit.
  • UTM tags are skipped on links that already carry their own, so your existing campaigns stay as they are.

Questions about tracking links.

Do I need a link shortener?
No. Your page’s address with ?via= on the end is already short, and the word is yours to choose.
Can I make up my own words?
Yes. Any short word of letters and numbers works, like ?via=newsletter or ?via=busshelter, and it shows in your numbers as it is.
What are UTM tags?
Small labels on a link that website stats tools read. With campaign tags on, a visit from your page to your own site shows as coming from Portage in your site’s stats.
Does this use cookies?
No. The word rides in the address, and the visit is counted without cookies like every other.
