Paying Portage
Paying from your bank, step by step
Portage is paid by Interac e-Transfer in Canada and by bank transfer everywhere else, so you never type a card number and no card company stands between you and us. You pay from the banking app you already use, we match your payment to your order by its code, and your receipt comes by email.

How it works
- Place your order or pick your extraYou see the total, a short code for your order and where to send it, on the page and in an email.
- Send it from your bankAn Interac e-Transfer in Canada, or a transfer from your own bank anywhere else, with the code in the message.
- That’s itA bank transfer is matched to your order’s code, usually within minutes of it arriving. A person checks an e-Transfer, usually the same day, and you’ll get your receipt by email. A shop order is then checked and sent to print, and a person reads anything unusual; an extra starts on your page.
What you get by paying from your bank
No card number, anywhere
You never type a card number on Portage, so there’s none for us to keep and none for anyone to steal. Your bank login stays with your bank.
No card fee from abroad
Outside Canada you send a transfer in your own currency, from your own bank, to our account in your country. There’s no card in it, so there’s no foreign transaction fee, which card issuers often charge on purchases from Canada.
The rate of the day, nothing added
From abroad, a price is the Canadian one at the Bank of Canada’s rate of the day, rounded to the cent. We add no markup to it.
No security question
In Canada, e-Transfers to us deposit by themselves, so there’s no question or answer to set up and share.
A receipt by email
A bank transfer is matched to your order’s code, usually within minutes of it arriving. A person checks an e-Transfer, usually the same day, and you’ll get your receipt by email. An extra starts on your page straight after.
Why we chose it
No card company in the middle
Card companies, and the services built on them, decide who may take payments. Paid by bank, no card company can make Portage turn a creator away.
More of it goes to Portage
No card company takes a cut, so more of each order and each gift goes to keeping every Portage page free.
Our refund promise
If anything’s wrong, we send your money back the way it came. A real person answers hello@cadenic.studio, within three business days at the latest.
Honest about the trade
Your bank can’t reverse a bank payment the way a card company can reverse a charge. That’s why our refund promise is written down, and why a refund goes back the way you paid.
No surprise charges
Nothing renews by itself and no card is kept on file, so there’s nothing for us to charge without you sending it.
What people ask about paying by bank
Why doesn’t Portage take credit cards?
So that no card number is ever typed here and no card company stands in the middle. You pay by Interac e-Transfer in Canada or by bank transfer anywhere else.
Is sending an Interac e-Transfer free?
On most Canadian bank accounts, yes. Some account plans count it toward a monthly number of transactions, so check your plan if you’re not sure.
How long does a payment take to arrive?
An Interac e-Transfer usually arrives within minutes, and so does a transfer from many banks abroad, Australia’s among them. A transfer from the United States can take one to three business days. A bank transfer is matched to your order’s code, usually within minutes of it arriving. A person checks an e-Transfer, usually the same day.
Can I pay in my own currency?
Yes, wherever we hold an account in your currency, the United States and Australia among them, at the Bank of Canada’s rate of the day. Your order’s page shows the exact amount in your currency before you send anything.
What if I forget the code or send the wrong amount?
Write to hello@cadenic.studio with your name and your order’s code. A payment is never lost: we match it to your order or send it back the way it came.
Is paying by bank safe?
You pay inside your own bank’s app and never give anyone a card number or a password. The trade is that your bank can’t reverse it the way a card company can reverse a charge, which is why our refunds are written down on one page.
