Three new Halloween themes. See them

Locked links

Password protect a link in your bio, for the people who should have it.

Supporters, a class, a team or wedding guests. Lock one link and everyone else sees that it’s there, but not where it goes.

Free on every Portage page, with every other feature. Nothing to upgrade to.

Desk Hours, an example study server. Thesis corner is locked. Open the page

Three locks, for three different jobs.

  • A password

The link’s address stays off the page until someone types the right password. You can add a hint, like “On the back of your invitation”.

  • An age check

Ask visitors to confirm they’re 18, 19 or 21 before a link opens. It’s a question, not an ID check.

  • A whole 18+ section

For creators with adult work: a section that stays closed until a visitor opens it with one tap, on a page that’s otherwise for everyone.

What a visitor sees.

Each lock as it looks on a real example page. The rows are drawn by the same code that draws your page.

  • A password, with a hint, from Desk Hours
  • An age to confirm, from dustmoth
  • An 18+ section

Closed until a visitor opens it with one tap, on a page that’s otherwise for everyone. It stays closed on pages like this one, so it’s described here rather than shown.

How it works for 18+ creators

Lock a link in three steps.

Start a page with a locked link

  1. Open the link’s options.

Press More options under any link in the editor.

  2. Choose the lock.

A password, with a hint if you like, or an age to confirm.

  3. Share the password your way.

In your supporters’ email, on the invitation or in class. Change it whenever you like.

What a lock can’t promise.

  • Once someone has opened the link, they can share where it goes. A lock keeps the address off your page, not out of the world.
  • An age lock is a question. It doesn’t check anyone’s ID.
  • A lock protects a link on your page. The page it opens is protected only by that site’s own settings.

Questions about locks.

Can someone find a locked link by viewing the page source?
No. The address isn’t in the page at all until the right password is typed. It’s checked on our side, then the link opens.
How many links can I lock?
As many as you like, each with its own password or the same one.
Do apps like Instagram see the locked link?
Not from your page, because the address isn’t there to see. What an app does with a link someone opens is up to that app.
Do locks cost extra?
No. Password locks, age locks and the 18+ section are free, like everything on Portage.

Some links are just for your people.

Pick a handle and lock whichever links you like.
